Irving Independence Day Parade
Pool parties, cookouts and fireworks is what usually crosses our minds when we think of July 4th. But not only is it the kick-start holiday of summer, it is the day we celebrate America’s independence from Great Britain. In 1776 the first festive bonfires, concerts, parades and public readings of the Declaration of Independence filled the streets of early colonies. Irving, TX continues to carry on this annual tradition with the Irving Independence Day Parade. This event allows residents to celebrate the nation’s founding with hundreds of friends and family in their own backyard.
This year the theme is “Continued Commitment to Our Troops-Show Them We Care.” Participants can show their pride by decorating floats and walking in groups to honor members of the U.S. military, historical landmarks and notable American figures. The parade will begin at 9am, Wednesday, July 4 at Sowers Street and Irving Boulevard near Millennium Park. Immediately following the parade will be a reception held at Heritage Park. Enjoy live music, complimentary watermelon and free airbrush tattoos and balloons for the kids.
Independence Day Fireworks
An Independence celebration wouldn’t be complete without a fireworks show. This year, for the first time, a thrilling fireworks display will explode from the middle of Lake Carolyn. The Irving Independence Day Celebration will run from 6 to 10pm, with the fireworks display starting at 9:30 p.m. Enjoy live entertainment from DJ Chris Brown and the dance band, The Argyles, from NBC’s “The Voice.” This unique show is expected to be one of Texas’ only municipal fireworks displays conducted from the water.
Participants can choose from more than a dozen food vendors including Jamaican, Cajun, Mexican and Seafood cuisine. American specialties, carnival fare and frozen treats will also be available. Take photos with Uncle Sam on stilts, zip-line, rock climb or go for a spin on wet and dry inflatable rides. Swim attire is not required, but towels are recommended. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and umbrellas; outside food and beverages are permitted.
Admission and activities are free. Parking is available in area parking garages for $10 per vehicle. Visitors also are encouraged to ride the DART Orange Line to the Las Colinas Urban Center Station. A free shuttle service will provide transportation to and from the event.
